From September 17-18, 2024, JCSUD is partnering with the Texas Rural Water Association (TRWA) to utilize thermal imaging via drone in the Rio Vista area to locate water leaks in the distribution system. Flying the drone over water lines captures thermal images that reveal potential water leaks through temperature changes. This non-intrusive method allows for rapid identification of leaks, especially those that don’t surface. This effort is to reduce water loss and monitor the integrity of the distribution system, which aligns with JCSUD’s goal of providing safe, reliable, and affordable water to its customers. TRWA’s drone pilots are fully licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and JCSUD staff will always be present with the drone pilot. The aerial imaging will be done on customers’ properties adjacent to the JCSUD right-of-way. For any questions, please contact JCSUD during regular business hours, 8:00-5:00, Monday through Friday.
